Identity cards as travel documentsAn identity card as a travel document An identity card can also be used as a travel document instead of a passport. Please note that a so-called identity card for a minor issued without the guardians' consent, an identity card issued to a foreigner or a temporary identity card are not valid as travel documents.
In the Nordic countries (Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland) no travel documents are required; however, you must be able to reliably prove your identity when requested to do so. PLEASE NOTE: If an identity card reported as missing or stolen is found, it can only be used as a travel document after the card holder has presented the card to the police and reported it as found.
