National Police Day to Be Celebrated Nationwide on Saturday 29 August 2026
The traditional National Police Day will be celebrated on Saturday 29 August 2026. This year’s theme is “Securing everyone in all circumstances.”
The police strategy was updated at the beginning of 2026. The renewed vision, “Securing everyone in all circumstances,” serves as a reminder that the police are present wherever people are, around the clock, every day of the year – 24/7.
“The mission of the police is to safeguard society regardless of the situation or operating environment. The police serve all people equally. Everyone has the right to safety and police assistance, regardless of age, background, place of residence or life situation,” says Deputy National Police Commissioner Janne Paavola.
“It is important to meet citizens and hear their thoughts. Police Day is an excellent tradition that allows us to engage directly with people and hear their views on society, safety and their own living environment.”
Police departments will organise events across Finland. Information on event locations and schedules is available on the police website at Police Day poliisi.fi/en/policeday. On social media, events can be found using the hashtags #PoliisinPäivä, #PolisensDag and #PoliceDay.
Youth and Police Week Also Celebrated During Police Day Week
In addition to the traditional public events, the police will be highly visible among young people during Youth and Police Week, held from 24 to 30 August 2026.
“During the week, police social media channels will feature content aimed particularly at young people. In addition, the lead-up to Police Day will be visible through police patrols engaging with schools, providing a good opportunity for young people to talk with the police. Young people can also meet police officers online, for example in connection with gaming events,” says Chief Superintendent Tuomo Korhonen of the National Police Board of Finland.

Police Day events are open to everyone and suitable for all age groups. Police vehicles continue to be among the most popular attractions. Local event information is available at Police Day poliisi.fi/en/policeday.
Police Day has been organised in its current format since 2009, attracting thousands of participants each year. After two exceptional years, the event returned to normal in 2022. Police Day was cancelled entirely in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and held virtually in 2020.
The purpose of Police Day events is to strengthen the local and approachable presence of the police and promote interaction with residents. This supports a strong sense of security and trust in public authorities.
This year, National Police Commissioner Ilkka Koskimäki can be met at events organised by the Eastern Uusimaa Police Department and the Helsinki Police Department.
