Two pre-trial investigations have been launched following an incident on Saturday, 8 August 2026, in which police stopped a moped rider in Tuusula. The Helsinki Police Department is investigating the actions of the rider of the two-wheeled vehicle.
Dozens of young people were present at a moped meet in the area.
A police patrol was carrying out traffic monitoring in the area. At 6.56pm, the patrol spotted a two-wheeled vehicle with no registration plate. The police patrol attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver accelerated sharply and tried to flee from the patrol.
The preliminary offences under investigation are aggravated endangering of traffic safety, unlawful driving of a vehicle, and a vehicle offence.
The police suspect a 15-year-old boy of these offences. The boy was injured during the stop. An ambulance came to the scene, and paramedics examined the driver there.
The Police Crimes Unit at the Office of the Prosecutor General has launched a pre-trial investigation into the police's actions during the stop. District Prosecutor Heli Haapalehto is the investigator in charge.
