8.6.2021 | The Finnish Police participated in a major global law enforcement operation led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Europol, among others, has published a press release on the operation today on 8 June. For Finland, Operation Greenlight contributed to the fight against organised drug trafficking, in particular, and resulted in large drug seizures.

28.10.2022 | Detective Senior Sergent Jari Kyllönen, an experienced member of the narcotics division at the Helsinki Police Department, is the Police of the Year 2022. In addition to his crime investigation work, Jari Kyllönen is a distinguished educator, actively participating, for example, in the education concerts entitled Pidä huolta! (Take care!) given by the Helsinki Police band as well as a volunteer in the association Irti Huumeista (“Free from drugs”).

18.4.2024 | The Finnish Police participated in an international crime prevention operation taking down LabHost, an online service specialised in phishing banking credentials and credit card details. Hosting service providers and dozens of customers of the service were arrested across Europe. The operation was led by the UK London Metropolitan Police in cooperation with Europol. A total of 19 countries took part in the operation.

18.1.2024 | The National Police Board of Finland has published a broad study assessing the functioning and development needs of human resource management in the police. Based on the knowledge obtained from the study, the police will develop the well-being and expertise of its personnel as well as its employer brand.

15.2.2024 | The National Police Board has appointed Jari Liukku, LLM (LLM with court training), as police chief at Helsinki Police Department effective as of 1 April 2024. Four people applied for the post of police chief at Helsinki Police Department, which is for a term of five years.

22.1.2025 | The active early phase of the criminal investigation into the cable damage is about to be completed. The focus of the investigation is on the assessment of possible intent and related facts.

2.3.2025 | Swift action by the Finnish authorities prevented any additional damage from taking place in the Gulf of Finland. The criminal investigative measures concerning the cable damage have reached a stage where the authorities have been able to cancel the seizure. The Eagle S tanker will leave Finland's territorial waters and exclusive economic zone under the control of the Border Guard.

29.10.2025 | Superintendent Sami Hätönen, who works at the Police University College, has been chosen as the Police Officer of the Year 2025 in Finland. The nomination was announced on Wednesday 29 October 2025 at a seminar in Helsinki.
