11.3.2020 | The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) requests that a citizen of Sierra Leone, born in 1969, be placed on remand on suspicion of murders and aggravated war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in exceptional circumstances. The remand hearing is held at the Pirkanmaa District Court on Thursday 12 March at 11 o’clock.

8.6.2021 | The Finnish Police participated in a major global law enforcement operation led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Europol, among others, has published a press release on the operation today on 8 June. For Finland, Operation Greenlight contributed to the fight against organised drug trafficking, in particular, and resulted in large drug seizures.

19.1.2021 | The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Southwestern Finland Police Department have finished a criminal investigation into large-scale trafficking of cocaine from the Netherlands to Finland and its further distribution in the Turku and Helsinki regions.

The criminal activity began to be exposed during the international FBI-led Operation Greenlight. The police believe that the case has links to a number of other drug investigations in Finland.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) started the criminal investigation in late autumn 2020. The suspected offences comprise an aggravated computer break-in, aggravated espionage, and aggravated message interception.

18.3.2022 | A construction company is suspected of having exploited their workers who have been unaware of the applicable working hour laws and collective contract terms. The company has made the employees work very long hours , with no weekly rest days or increments of pay. Moreover, the workers have been forced to refund part of their pay to the employer.

5.6.2023 | The National Bureau of Investigation and the Southwestern Finland Police Department have finished a criminal investigation into online banking frauds. The suspect, who is a man in his twenties, has been remanded since December 2022. The complex investigation has links to a wider criminal phenomenon in which Finnish people have lost millions of euros in recent years.

15.7.2022 | The analysing period of personal data will become significantly longer based on a new Europol decree that came into force in the end of June. The new decree will prolong Europol’s analysing period of personal data significantly compared to the previous decree. 

28.10.2022 | The National Bureau of Investigation has made progress in the criminal investigation of the hacking incident committed against Psychotherapy Centre Vastaamo. A Finnish man has been remanded in absentia on suspicion of the offence. A European arrest warrant has been issued against the suspect.

3.2.2023 | A 25-year-old man suspected of the aggravated computer break-in has been arrested in France under a European arrest warrant. The police issued the arrest warrant for the suspect in October 2022.

27.2.2023 | The National Bureau of Investigation will request that the Finnish man suspected of the computer break-in committed against Psychotherapy Centre Vastaamo be placed on remand by the Western Uusimaa District Court in Espoo on Tuesday 28 February. The suspect was surrendered to Finland on Friday 24 February from France, where he was arrested at the beginning of the month.

26.4.2023 | The criminal investigation into the data breach against Psychotherapy Centre Vastaamo and the subsequent leak of sensitive customer data is expected to be completed in the late summer of 2023. The police urge the victims of extortion or dissemination of information violating personal privacy to report the crime to the police and fill in the statement form available on Police e-services by the end of May, unless they have already done so.

24.2.2023 | The National Bureau of Investigation has started a criminal investigation into a suspected money collection offence committed by a man living in Lahti. The suspect was apprehended in Lahti yesterday on 23 February.

3.2.2023 | The police have investigated GPS interference that occurred in the Finnish territory in spring 2022, and several airspace violations in Finnish airspace in spring and summer 2022. These criminal investigations have been interrupted because the suspects are not known to the police.

31.8.2023 | The Vastaamo hacking case, involving suspected aggravated computer break-in, aggravated attempted extortion and aggravated dissemination of information violating personal privacy, has been under investigation by the police since autumn 2020. The criminal investigation is now completed and referred to the prosecutor for consideration of charges.

30.7.2024 | Since the end of 2022 and beginning of 2023, the Itä-Uusimaa Police Department has been investigating an international organised crime group led from Poland. The group is suspected of having imported to Finland considerable volumes of narcotics and their precursors.

28.11.2023 | The police have concluded an extensive criminal investigation concerning Thai berry pickers who worked in Finland and are believed to have become victims of human trafficking. The police suspect five people of the offence.

3.4.2024 | The Eastern Uusimaa police has made progress in the investigation of the school shooting in Viertola.

17.5.2024 | Spanish law enforcement authorities carried out an operation in which two persons targeted by the Finnish Police were also arrested. Spain authorities released information about the operation earlier this week. This joint search and arrest operation between Spain, Finland, Sweden and Poland was coordinated by the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol) and carried out in the regions of Barcelona and Malaga on Tuesday 23 April.

11.4.2024 | The police have made progress in the criminal investigation into the shooting incident at Viertola school on 02 April and most of the interviews have been completed. The police have been working in close cooperation with various authorities, including the District Prosecutor.

6.2.2025 | Western Uusimaa Police Department has finished the preliminary investigation in a case where an approximately 30-year-old man was shot in a private residence in Espoo. The case proceeds to consideration of charges with the criminal offence being murder. The suspect is an approximately 65-year-old man whose relationship with the victim had ended a few weeks before the crime.
