23.9.2025 | The police in Finland use a firearm on a very few occasions by international comparison. In his blog post, the National Police Commissioner of Finland provides information on the use of firearms by the police and related phenomena based on statistics, and on changes in the operating environment.

10.10.2025 | The Police University College of Finland is participating in two research projects that will provide an overview of the current situation with organised crime and related phenomena in Finland and the Nordic countries.

24.9.2025 | The police have conducted spring and autumn surveys on driving while intoxicated since 1979. The 2025 survey and statistics show a slight increase in drink driving.

According the National Police Board’s statistics for 2025, the number of suspected criminal offences committed by under-15s has increased by 78 per cent in five years. Among 15- to 17-year-olds, the number has increased by 63 per cent.

18.7.2025 | During the summer of 2025, the police have received several cases for investigation, in which a child who has gone into water has been in danger of death or died in the water. The police emphasise that it is the parents’ responsibility to take care of their children. Small children and especially children who cannot swim must be looked after constantly, and water safety equipment in accordance with the law must be provided, such as life jackets when boating.

29.8.2025 | Public trust in the police has remained stable for a long time. Of those who responded to the latest Police Barometer survey, 92 per cent trust the police a lot or a fair amount.

24.9.2024 | The police will carry out an intensified elk and deer hunting control operation during 30 September – 27 October. The operation will be carried out when the elk hunting season is already underway and hunting clubs are at their most active. The operation will be carried out in cooperation with other wilderness supervisory authorities responsible for hunting and fishing matters, i.e. the Finnish Border Guard, Customs and Metsähallitus.

28.8.2024 | Police departments are to carry out an intensified monitoring operation of street behaviour and substance abuse during the Venetian Festival weekend, 30 August – 1 September, when, in addition to traditional festivities, young people gather to celebrate the start of the school year. Monitoring will focus on young people under the age of 18. Particular attention will be paid to the possession of intoxicants, narcotics and bladed weapons or other objects capable of harming others.
