In his speech, Ilkka Koskimäki highlighted the safety and security of schools. The police support the security work carried out in educational institutions. However, the security of schools is a more extensive issue, and not a matter for the police alone.

13.5.2026 | The National Police Board has published an updated handbook on the investigation of crimes involving children and young people. The handbook is intended to serve as a collective guide for investigating crimes against children as well as crimes suspected to have been committed by children. The guide can be downloaded from the police website.

The analyses focus on three themes: shortage of police resources, crimes not reported due to fear of retaliation, and threatening of crime victims and witnesses in the criminal process.

4.10.2023 | Towards the end of the year, Police University College will organize, for the first time, a national continuing education course on investigation of animal welfare offenses. More than 30 police officers from all parts of Finland will attend the course alongside criminal investigators from the Border Guard and special prosecutors and district court judges from the National Prosecution Authority.

14.11.2025 | The Police University College is investigating how a remote controlled unmanned aerial vehicle (drone-in-a-box) system could be utilized in operational police work. The project is being carried out in cooperation with Central Finland and Southeastern Finland police departments.

18.9.2025 | Gambling is being marketed illegally on various social media platforms and in game streams, and the police are addressing this activity. A particular concern for the police is the marketing of gambling targeted at young people.

27.8.2025 | Police University College is to take part in the Finnish Defence Forces’ local defense exercise on September 1–4, 2025. During the week, the personnel and equipment involved in the exercise may be seen on roads in the area.

19.3.2026 | In the Cyber Capital project, the development areas of the authorities' cybercrime prevention expertise were identified more comprehensively than before, and the training content of cybercrime prevention was renewed using the knowledge accumulated during the project. The effort generated new expertise and strengthened international cooperation.
