22.1.2025 | The active early phase of the criminal investigation into the cable damage is about to be completed. The focus of the investigation is on the assessment of possible intent and related facts.

2.5.2023 | The National Bureau of Investigation and the National Criminal Police of Estonia have investigated together aggravated trafficking in human beings involving companies with links to the construction industry. It is suspected that an organisation consisting of different companies and individuals has deceived several dozen workers into coming to work in Finland in circumstances such as forced labour and has gained criminal proceeds of over 2.3 million euros from this activity.

25.11.2024 | Investigations at the scene where the C-Lion-1 sea cable between Finland and Germany was ruptured are ongoing. The Border Guard's patrol vessel Turva is still at the scene to continue underwater investigations in the Baltic Sea.

6.5.2025 | The National Bureau of Investigation has completed a large criminal investigation into terrorist offences. One person is suspected of public exhortation to an offence committed with a terrorist intent and of contributing to the activities of a terrorist group.

13.3.2025 | The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has started a criminal investigation into the activities of the City of Helsinki in relation to the data breach discovered in spring 2024. The investigation was opened on the basis of the NBI's preliminary inquiry into the matter.

6.2.2025 | The Southeast Finland Police are investigating the disappearance of an underaged child in Lappeenranta. The child crossed the border to Russia illegally on Friday the 31st of January.

29.4.2025 | Serious violent crimes have been detected by a joint operation carried out between the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Swedish Police. In the case under investigation, Swedish citizens are suspected of having organised the commission of violent acts in Sweden and Denmark. One suspect is suspected of about ten violent acts.

11.4.2024 | The police have made progress in the criminal investigation into the shooting incident at Viertola school on 02 April and most of the interviews have been completed. The police have been working in close cooperation with various authorities, including the District Prosecutor.

9.5.2025 | The National Bureau of Investigation continues cooperation with Chinese authorities in the investigation into the damaged Balticconnector gas pipeline. Information about any investigative measures taken by the authorities of China and Hong Kong is, however, provided by the competent authorities themselves.

15.3.2024 | National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) conducts investigation into an alleged aggravated money laundering as a Finnish company has received money from Ukraine for supplying protection gear to the war zone. According to the criminal investigation, a total of 5.7 million euros was sent to a Finnish entrepreneur from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.

20.11.2024 | Based on preliminary inquiries, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has decided to open a criminal investigation into the damage caused to the sea cable between Finland and Germany. The suspected criminal act is currently investigated as aggravated criminal mischief and aggravated interference with communications.

31.12.2025 | The police, together with other authorities, have moved the cargo vessel to a safe place for further inquiries. They are also in the process of establishing information related to the vessel.

21.5.2025 | The National Bureau of Investigation has closed a criminal investigation into suspected unauthorised intelligence activities in Southeastern Finland in 2022. On the basis of the interviews and other investigative measures carried out, the investigation was closed and there is no reason to suspect an offence in the matter.

13.6.2025 | The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has completed its criminal investigation into the damage caused to cables in the Gulf of Finland on 25 December 2024. Based on the investigation, senior officers of the tanker Eagle S are suspected of aggravated criminal mischief and aggravated interference with telecommunications.

13.5.2026 | The National Police Board has published an updated handbook on the investigation of crimes involving children and young people. The handbook is intended to serve as a collective guide for investigating crimes against children as well as crimes suspected to have been committed by children. The guide can be downloaded from the police website.
