More effective and targeted police enforcement has contributed to this positive trend, according to a recent police traffic blog.

10.4.2024 | The National Police Board of Finland has published a report containing a comprehensive analysis of youth crime among under 21-year-olds. Another purpose of the analysis report was to produce a nationwide situational picture of youth crime.

20.12.2024 | The police are deeply concerned about this year's grim statistics on road traffic fatalities among children and young people under 18. Although the number of road fatalities is significantly lower today than it was ten years ago, the trend for children and young people has taken a clear step backwards in 2024.

24.9.2024 | The police will carry out an intensified elk and deer hunting control operation during 30 September – 27 October. The operation will be carried out when the elk hunting season is already underway and hunting clubs are at their most active. The operation will be carried out in cooperation with other wilderness supervisory authorities responsible for hunting and fishing matters, i.e. the Finnish Border Guard, Customs and Metsähallitus.

22.10.2024 | Young people under the age of 25 accounted for more than 50% of incidents involving causing a serious traffic hazard. However, there were no serious accidents.

10.1.2024 | Traffic safety has continued to show good development, and the number of road traffic fatalities has reached below 200 for the second year in a row. The biggest fall in road fatalities was seen in passengers travelling in passenger cars. 

28.8.2024 | Police departments are to carry out an intensified monitoring operation of street behaviour and substance abuse during the Venetian Festival weekend, 30 August – 1 September, when, in addition to traditional festivities, young people gather to celebrate the start of the school year. Monitoring will focus on young people under the age of 18. Particular attention will be paid to the possession of intoxicants, narcotics and bladed weapons or other objects capable of harming others.

6.7.2023 | Investigation of the criminal offences related to the Vastaamo case has required an exceptional amount of work from the police, and this is clearly visible in the statistics for the police’s criminal investigations for this year. By the end of June, approximately 25,000 crimes related to the case have been solved.
