The decision by the Pirkanmaa District Court to ban the Finnish branch of the Nordic Resistance Movement (PVL) and its sub-branches is not yet final. For this reason, the police cannot prevent these groups from assembling, holding demonstrations or using their insignia during Independence Day events.

In other respects, the police have the authority to intervene in the assembly of and demonstrations by them and other parties, if there is a threat to public order or safety, or the law is otherwise broken.

The National Police Board has decided that, if the decision by the Pirkanmaa District Court does not become final, the National Police Board will request that the Court of Appeal impose a temporary ban on the Nordic Resistance Movement’s Finnish branch and sub-branches.

According to the Associations Act, the authorities can intervene immediately in the activities of a registered association, but only once the decision has become final in the case of an unregistered association. The decision by the District Court is therefore enforceable with regard to Pohjoinen perinne ry.

Following the decision by the District Court, a man entrusted with the task has begun closing down the online store, and winding up the publication and circulation of the association newsletter of Pohjoinen perinne ry.

The Pirkanmaa District Court accepted the action of the National Police Board requesting the termination of the Finnish branch of the Nordic Resistance Movement, its direct and indirect sub-branches, and Pohjoinen perinne ry.
