Starting at 06.00 on Wednesday 21 August 2019, the police will perform enhanced automatic traffic surveillance for a period of 24 hours, specifically involving the efficient use of camera vehicles.

According to Chief Superintendent Heikki Ihalainen from the National Police Board, the surveillance will focus on the morning commute and on traffic in the vicinity of schools and daycare centres.

“Driving speeds tend to rise during the morning commute, because people are in a hurry to get to work and have learned that there is usually little apparent surveillance at that time of day. This themed surveillance effort will address that traffic in particular,” says Heikki Ihalainen .

Another important theme is to enforce speed limits in areas where schoolchildren are around.

Police departments will also be employing traditional surveillance techniques.
