The Police University College is a partner in a research and innovation project, funded by the European Union, for improving the work of the police and other frontline responders to domestic violence in European countries.

Domestic violence, or violence in close relationships, refers to the actions by a close person or former partner that causes physical, sexual or psychological harm, such as physical violence, sexual coercion, psychological abuse and dominant behavior.

“The IMPRODOVA project produces recommendations, guidelines and training ideas for European police organizations and professionals in the health care and social sector, taking into account cooperation with key players in the third sector,” says researcher Monica Fagerlund of the Police University College.

“The project aims at creating a positive trend so that domestic violence is reported to the police and health care and social workers more often. The project builds on Polamk's track record in research on domestic violence and violence in close relationships and collaboration with the National Institute for Health and Welfare.”

The IMPRODOVA project is funded by the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 program and the Police University College’s share of the funding is approximately EUR 316,000. The project will last until spring 2021.
