Rescue services and the police received a report at 5:41 am on Tuesday about a fire at a medium-sized apartment building on Pähkinärinteentie in Vantaa.
Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze, but rescue operations continue and several rescue and first aid units as well as police patrols are at the site. The police have operational command of the situation.
The police have cordoned off the place and ask the inhabitants to avoid moving in the area. Outsiders are not in danger.
The police suspect the fire was deliberately started and one person has been arrested on suspicion of the crime.
Five people died in the fire.
