Attempted rape in Kluuvi on New Year’s Eve - the police urge the victim to get in touch

The Serious Offences Against a Person unit of Helsinki Police Department is investigating an offence committed on New Year’s night. The case is currently being treated as an attempted rape.

According to information gathered by the police, an attempt was made to rape a young girl in a doorway at Yliopistonkatu 8 between 1 and 1.10 a.m. on New Year’s Day. The assault was interrupted when passers-by intervened in the situation. As she was attacked, the girl was on the phone with somebody.

The police has arrested the suspected attacker and urges the victim, or the person with whom she was talking on the phone when she was attacked, to contact them urgently either by e-mail at the address seksuaalirikokset.helsinki@poliisi.fi or by calling the Sexual Offences Division at 0295 47 1612 during office hours.
