From 10 March to 31 May 2025, the offices of the Eastern Finland Police Department will accept applications for temporary protection only two weekdays a week, on Mondays and Thursdays from 8am to 3pm.
Applications will be accepted at police stations in Kuopio, Joensuu and Mikkeli. Customers applying for temporary protection should make an appointment before they come to the police station. This can be done by email to kv-suojelu.ita-suomi@poliisi.fi. The email address provides service in Finnish and English.
Any other changes in the service will be announced on the police website.
Background to the change
The number of applications for temporary protection has increased very significantly across Finland since February 2022. The largest group of applicants are Ukrainian citizens. The police have been responsible for receiving applications.
In 2024, Eastern Finland Police Department received more than 1,700 applications for temporary protection, which was the second highest number in police departments across Finland.
Most of the applications are concentrated between June and August each year. However, there are varying numbers of applications throughout the year. So far, applications have been received every weekday.
