Police Chief Jari Liukku has appointed Patrik Karlsson to the position of Superintendent and head of the Special Operations Division. Karlsson will start in his new role on August 1.
The head of the Special Operations Unit is responsible for leading, developing, and supervising the Helsinki Police Department's Special Operations Unit, which includes Traffic Control Operations, Special Intervention Operations and Dignitary Protection Operations
The Special Operations Division is responsible for the safety of the President, members of the Government and state visitors. Special Intervention Unit Karhu, Police Traffic Safety Centre and Helsinki Police Band are also part of the Special Operations Division
Superintendent Karlsson has held senior positions for approximately 12 years. He has previously worked as a superintendent on a fixed-term contract as head of the Operational Command Center and head of the Special Operations Division.
Karlsson completed his police senior officer's degree in 2015.
