Further information about the traffic accident in Sinettä
Two people were killed in the traffic accident in Sinettä, Rovaniemi on the 19th of December. In addition, several people were hospitalised.
A bus and a minivan collided on the Pellontie road in Sinettä on Thursday shortly before 1 p.m. The reason for the collision is still unknown. The accident took place near the intersection of Lehtojärventie. The driving conditions were poor due to snowfall and loose snow on the road.
A total of 37 people were involved in the traffic accident. Two of them died at the scene. Several people were injured in the crash and the injured were transported to hospital for treatment.
The passengers in the two vehicles were mainly tourists from Singapore and China. The police are in contact with the embassies of the countries concerned.
In addition to the police, several units of the Lapland Rescue Department and emergency medical services took part in the rescue mission. The road was closed to other traffic for around five hours due to clearance of the incident site.
At this stage of the investigation, the police suspect the driver of the minibus of aggravated endangerment of traffic safety, negligent homicide and negligent injury. The investigation is at an early stage and the types of crime may change as it progresses.
Police will not release any further information about the accident or the people involved until the investigation is complete.
