On Wednesday 7 September, the Police will organise intensive speed controls throughout the country. The extensive controls will cover the whole country through the use of the Police’s automated speed control equipment, complemented with other methods.

As concerns fatal motor vehicle accidents in 2020, investigated by the road accident investigation teams, one third of the principal culprits of collisions were driving at least 10 km/h over the speed limit at the moment of the accident. In half of the fatal individual accidents, the speed of the vehicle had exceeded the speed limit by over 30 km/h.

The Police reminds the drivers of the fact that excess speed increases the need to overtake, leaving the driver less time to react in unexpected situations. In addition, any time saving gained by speeding is mostly insignificant.
