More than 5,800 breath alcohol tests carried out for drivers

During the weekend, the police carried out intensified national drunk driving control operations and caught 94 drivers who are now suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Alcohol was the cause of intoxication in 63 cases, and drugs in 31 cases. Persons suspected of other crimes as well as 41 wanted persons were also caught during the raid weekend.

A total of 5,824 drivers were subjected to a breath alcohol test. The raids took place predominantly during the evenings and nights.

“The police carry out control operations and inform the public of them in order to prevent serious accidents that result from drunk driving”, says chief superintendent Timo Ajaste from the National Police Board.

Intensified control operations will continue next weekend throughout the country.
