The meeting between President Niinistö and President Putin in Savonlinna on Thursday, 27 July requires special traffic arrangements. Parking bans for the Savonlinna harbour area and the roads leading to Olavinlinna Castle will become effective tonight at 23:30. The parking bans will be in force until 8:00 in the morning on Friday, 28 July.

Locations where the parking bans apply are marked with traffic signs, and they can also be found in the attached map. Vehicles parked in violation of the parking bans will be towed to the City of Savonlinna impound yard, or to another location designated by the police.

During the parking bans, fee parking will be available in the parking lots maintained by the City of Savonlinna and in the multi-storey car park on Tottinkatu Street.

The police recommend taking care of any business in the city before noon on Thursday as road closures will be applied to certain road sections due to the meeting of the presidents from 12:00 onwards. Such road sections include the route from Savonlinna Airport to Hotel Punkaharju and the route from Punkaharju to Savonlinna. Road closures will also be applied on the route from Olavinlinna Castle to Savonlinna Airport later during Thursday evening. No traffic will be allowed along these routes during road closure, apart from official traffic (for example, ambulances or other emergency vehicles). The road closures may last from half an hour up to more than an hour.

For those who are travelling in the Savonlinna area tomorrow after 12:00, be sure to reserve enough time to get where you are going. The road closures will cause delays in travel times. The routes leading to Savonlinna from the direction of Punkaharju, and the streets of Savonlinna later, will be congested after the closed road sections are opened for traffic.

The police would like to thank everyone affected by these special traffic arrangements for their patience.
