Police and Border Guard set up a joint investigation team
The Police and the Border Guard have set up a joint investigation team to carry out a preliminary investigation into the damage to a gas pipeline and a telecommunications cable.
The establishment of the joint investigation team is based on the PTR legislation for the Police, Customs and Border Guard and will, inter alia, make use of the Border Guard's specific expertise in the specific legislation applicable to maritime circumstances.
– The establishment of the team will speed up and intensify the exchange of information between the authorities and enable the members of the team to work in both authorities' capacities, says Detective superintendent Risto Lohi.
The National Bureau of Investigation will continue to investigate the crimes throughout the weekend, and the police have several lines of inquiry into the case.
Yesterday, the National Bureau of Investigation informed that it had started preparing a joint investigation team with Estonia. The documents for this investigation team have now been signed and the team can start its work.
– We have increased and are continuing to increase our international cooperation in order to clarify the whole picture. International support and cooperation during the investigation has been smooth, said Mr Lohi.
