Finland will hold a county and municipal election on 13 April 2025. The police will undertake enhanced monitoring of public order and security at campaign events and in the vicinity of election-related venues.

Elections are the foundation of a democratic society, and voting is a basic right enjoyed by every adult citizen of Finland. It is the job of the police to ensure that citizens can exercise their rights safely.

“The police are doing their part to ensure that campaign events around the country run safely and smoothly,” says Assistant Police Commissioner Vesa Pihajoki.

Open and pluralistic public debate is an important part of a functioning democracy. Candidates should be able to campaign in peace without fear. Competing for votes may include sharp and heated conversation but must remain within the bounds of law and order.

Together we can make our elections the most trusted in the world – with law and order.

Information on elections and campaign disruptions is available on the Ministry of Justice website: Elections.
