Friday 18 February marks the start of the winter holiday season, with the holidays beginning in the South of Finland. In road traffic this means that the following weekends will be exceptionally busy.
As always, the policy will be in charge of traffic safety throughout the country, focusing particularly on drunken driving, speeding and driving style faults, such as too short safety distances, use of the seat belts and tyres to match the weather conditions.
- In winter driving and traffic, the driver’s alertness is key, but also the functioning of the vehicle lights and the use of reflectors by the pedestrians are very important, Chief Superintendent Kari Onninen of the National Police Board points out.
