The Police has published its first responsibility report. Accessible at the Police site, the report is a summary of the responsibility objectives set in 2021, with respective measures to be taken. Responsibility is part of all Police operations

-  The Police provides safety and security to everybody, at all times, and so the Police responsibility and accountability constitute a vital part of everyday operations. Responsible operation is inherent in the work of anyone working at the Police, and the premises of daily operations include openness and transparency in all things done. This will build up the societal confidence we enjoy, Superintendent Janne Liljavuori of the National Police Board explains.

Underpinned by sustainable development

The Police is committed to promoting the UN Agenda for Sustainable Development (Agenda 2030).

Among the Agenda objectives, the Police has chosen entities which the Police can best impact through its own practices and operations. The Police responsibility and respective development work cover both economic, ecological and social responsibility.

-  In our work to plan and develop responsible operations, we comprehensively utilise and refer to the commitments made by the Ministry of the Interior, the Police administration and the Police University College, the roadmap to diminish the Police carbon footprint as well as our own responsibility report now published for the first time, Superintendent Liljavuori adds.

The Police Social Responsibility Report 2021 has been drafted following the instructions for governmental responsibility reporting issued by the State Treasury.

Outcome of collaborative effort

The report is a fruit of cooperation between the National Police Board, the Police University College and the Häme Police Department. All Police units participated in providing the background information for the report. In addition to the nation-wide report by the Police, the Häme Police Department drafted their own responsibility report. The Police responsibility report 2021 is available in Finnish, Swedish and English.

- The report will be one further tool for the future development of Police operations. It will help us to refine the responsibility objectives, measures and meters, Superintendent Linjavuori concludes.
