Police statistics for 2021 published

Publication date 18.2.2022 12.01
Type:News item

Police statistics for 2021 are now complete and available on the police website. The table includes statistics both by the type of crime and categories of offence.

The tabs of the table also include national and police department-specific data. In addition, a separate file contains national level indicators about police operations, such as the development of operational response times and the time spent on crime investigation.

The police has focussed development efforts on improving situational awareness. This is reflected in communications, too, as in the future, the police will more actively raise topics of societal importance for discussion, either from the perspective of police operations or the operating environment of the police.

“The police wants to be more open than before and report on phenomena detected with a more up-to-date approach,” says Juha Syrjä, Chief of Analysis at the National Police Board.

At the same time, the biannual statistics release will be abandoned to focus instead on providing services for the media and any interested parties by offering current, up-to-date statistics online on the police website . The statistics will be published in a table format that meets accessibility requirements.

“In any case, the police receives several requests for statistics, both nationwide and local, on a daily basis. By responding to these specific requests we are also better able to provide background information, necessary for interpretation, alongside the statistics,” says Syrjä about the background to the change.
