Police to contact schools soon
This year, all schools will be offered an opportunity to participate in virtual lessons organised by the police. In a new national model, the police will also support schools in problem-solving situations by making it easier to reach police via phone or email.
– Police departments will soon contact schools about this, and some have already approached schools via letters through municipal register offices or by other means. Naturally we hope that these contact requests reach the schools, says assistant police commissioner Pasi Rissanen from the National Police Board of Finland.
In addition to the online lessons, this increase of police presence comprises consultations with the school, ensuring communications and education on legality. Another working method is sending police patrols to schools as part of everyday work.
– By going out to the schools, the police aims to facilitate communications between children, youth and the police. It isn’t necessarily usual everywhere for the police to visit a school without any specific reason. We believe it is important in society to try to lower the walls between us, says assistant police commissioner Pasi Rissanen.
