Police used a firearm when apprehending a person in Espoo

At approximately 8 PM on Friday night the police received an assignment in Tapiola in Espoo from the emergency response centre.

While carrying out the assignment, the officers came into contact with a person bearing a firearm who did not obey the officers’ orders to relinquish the firearm. A police officer shot the person once while apprehending them. The police officers provided immediate emergency care to the apprehended person on site and the person was transported for further medical care.
 
The Helsinki Police Department is responsible for investigating the case, and the Department will release more information as the investigation progresses. The prosecution authority is responsible for investigating the officer’s use of their firearm.
