Speed limit enforcement marathon caught over 5,000 drivers speeding

In their 24-hour speed limit enforcement marathon, the police caught 5,159 drivers speeding. Of these, 3,850 were detected by automated speed limit enforcement and 1,309 by police officers.

According to Chief Superintendent Timo Ajaste of the National Police Board, the number of drivers caught speeding in proportion to the number observed is similar to the corresponding operation of a year ago.

In addition, 17 wanted individuals were apprehended and 26 other offences were detected.

The speed limit enforcement exercise was begun on Wednesday at 6am and finished at 6am today, Thursday. Speed limit enforcement was implemented

in more than 20 European countries at the same time. The purpose of enforcement and the related public information is to prevent road traffic accidents and draw drivers’ attention to their driving speeds.
