The Eastern Finland Police Department will accept applications for temporary protection only on two weekdays, Mondays and Thursdays, from 8am to 3pm, during the period from 1 September 2025 to 31 May 2026.
Applications may be submitted at the police stations in Kuopio, Joensuu and Mikkeli.
Applicants seeking temporary protection must schedule an appointment in advance by email at: kv-suojelu.ita-suomi@poliisi.fi. This email service is available in both Finnish and English.
Any additional changes to services will be announced on the official website of the Finnish Police.
Background of the change
Since February 2022, the number of temporary protection applications nationwide has increased significantly. The largest group of applicants consists of Ukrainian nationals. The police have been responsible for receiving applications.
The majority of applications are typically submitted between June and August each year. During the summer, applications were accepted on all weekdays in Kuopio and Joensuu.
Between 1 June and 23 August 2025, the Eastern Finland Police Department received a total of 995 applications for temporary protection.
