President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö will receive Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, in Savonlinna on Thursday, 27 July 2017. The visit will influence road traffic in particular, and impose restrictions on air and water traffic as well.

The road traffic restrictions will be in force from 12 noon on Thursday until late in the evening. Road sections will be temporarily closed from Savonlinna Airport to Punkaharju and Punkaharju to Savonlinna to allow the presidents to travel between locations. In Punkaharju, Punkaharjuntie (road 4792) will be closed on Thursday from 9.00 to 17.00 between Savonlinnantie (road 14) and Finlandiantie road (Karttaliite Punkaharju).

Parking will be restricted in central Savonlinna. The restrictions are shown in the enclosed map (Pysäköintikieltoalueet_poliisi). The restrictions are marked with traffic signs and any cars parked in violation of the prohibition will be transferred to the Savonlinna town depot or to a nearby location specified by the police.

The waterway restriction concerns mainly the environment of Olavinlinna Castle. In the area marked in red on the enclosed map (Vesiliikennerajoitus_kartta), waterborne traffic will be completely prohibited from 06.00 on 27 July 2017 to 02.00 on 28 July 2017. In addition, further restrictions may be imposed on the Port of Savonlinna and will be communicated in due course.

For air traffic, the restricted area EFR365 is shown in the attached map (Ilmatila_rajoitus_alue_SLN). All air traffic is restricted from 07.00 on 27 July to 12.00 noon on 28 July in the area specified on the map. The restriction applies to general aviation, including remote-controlled unmanned aerial vehicles. Savonlinna Airport is not in use while the restrictions are in force, except for scheduled commercial traffic.

The meeting of the presidents will affect traffic in the Savonlinna region in many ways. Therefore, the police recommend members of the public to conduct errands in Savonlinna on Thursday morning if residents and tourists in the area wish to avoid traffic jams caused by the visit. The police request everyone to allow ample time for all transfers after 12.00 noon on Thursday.
