The man who made a threat against Iso Omena shopping center has admitted the act

On Thursday, the 2nd of May the police of Western-Uusimaa captured approx. a 20-year old man, who was suspected of writing the threat which was published in TOR-website. The threat was written against Iso Omena shopping center. The man has admitted the act in the questioning during the weekend. The police is now investigating the case as an unlawful threat and an unfounded danger.

- As a motive the man told to be an anger, which took place after he lost a significant amount of money in a gamble in internet. In addition the man admitted that he had added some other person´s name to the threat even if the other person had nothing to do with the case, tells Chief Inspector Teemu Värtinen , who leads the investigation.

An unlawful threat may lead to a prison sentence of two years. In addition the offender may have to pay significant compensations. The compensations will be more precise later.

The assessment of threats is a task for the police

The threat came up extensively by the social media and therefore caused fear to the customers and the people working in Iso Omena shopping center.

- Threats are always serious and that’s how the police reacts to them. We started the co-operation with the council and the shopping center security organizations as soon as the threat occurred and the co-operation went smoothly, Värtinen says.

The police´s wish is, that the public will make a call to 112 in case of an imminent threat. In other cases the information can be sent as a tip via internet . In case of any suspicious publication it is not recommended to be sent further. The police also wants to remind the public, that if any area is to be avoided, police will inform the public about it immediately. If it is noticeably that the police has made a comment about some case in the press or in the social media, be assured that the case is taken care of.
