A total of 90 drunk drivers, including 28 flagrant cases, were caught in the surveillance of drunk driving by the Police last week. In addition to drunk drivers, 25 drivers under the influence of drugs as well as 38 fugitives were caught under high surveillance. In connection with the surveillance, a total of nine drug-related offences were recorded.

The Police targeted its intensified drunk-driving surveillance last week particularly on cottage and other traffic linked with the enjoyment of leisure time.

‘The object of surveillance was once again to remind drivers that alcohol and traffic do not mix as well as to prevent accidents due to drunk driving,’ National Police Board member Timo Ajaste says.

The number of breathalyser tests performed totalled 44,360. The number of those who had consumed alcohol but remained under the limit was 385.

Adjusted against the work time used in surveillance, fewer drunk drivers were caught than in similar surveillance last year.
