Western Uusimaa Police Department, School police contact information

Cooperation with schools is part of preventive policing. Section 1 of the Police Act lays down that the police, in its basic duty of maintaining security, works in cooperation with, for example, other authorities. Schools are a key partner in this security work. The duties of the police are defined in the Police Act and the police may only carry out those duties falling within their remit. For example, the police will not intervene in cases of bullying, mediation, camaraderie, truancy or other similar challenges in schools, unless criminal suspicion is involved.

The are many ways to deal with problem situations in schools and these should be discussed internally. In acute situations where you need to call the police, use the emergency number 112. In non-urgent cases, where you want to report an offence, you can also file a police report online via police e-services.

All schools will have the chance to participate in online police lessons. In addition, the police will produce material for teachers, guardians and young people to support discussion, including on social media channels and on the nuoretjarikollisuus.fi website. The police will also step up their presence in schools, for example by going to school yards to talk with schoolchildren.

In problem situations, school staff can contact the police by phone or email. You can find the contact information for Western Uusimaa Police Department below. The numbers are intended for school use only.
