Celebrate the Police Day at the Stoa square on 27 August
The Helsinki Police Department will hold this year’s traditional Police Day at the Stoa square in eastern Helsinki.
This year’s Police Day, held traditionally on the last Saturday of August, will be celebrated at the Stoa square in Itäkeskus from 12 noon until 4 pm. At the fun family event, you can meet police officers, take a look at police equipment, and pet police horses. A police lion will also make an appearance.
“We can finally celebrate the Police Day again after all the coronavirus years. Our main goal is to be present and close to people. We hope that everyone has the courage to come and talk to us and take a look at police officers’ work and equipment,” says Leena Karhumäki, Head of Communications at the Helsinki Police Department.
The Police Day has been held across Finland since 2009. In Helsinki, the event was previously held in 2019 at the Kukkatori square.
“We’ve always held this event in the centre of Helsinki, but this time we wanted to bring the event to the eastern parts of the city. The Police Day has always been known for its positive atmosphere, and it’s important that there are events where people can freely talk to police officers. After these two coronavirus years, such events where people can meet each other are especially important, also for us police officers,” says Katja Nissinen, Chief Inspector from preventive operations.
Want to work with us?
“Would you like to become a police officer or work at our police department? At the event, we will talk about police education and the various job opportunities the police organisation has to offer, also for civilians. Don’t be shy – come and talk to us,” says Chief Inspector Johanna Guessous who works in police recruitment projects.
The Police Day will also feature social media officers talking about their work, police officers from preventive operations who work with the city’s residents, communities and authorities, as well as communication officers, licence service specialists and mounted police officers.
Identification for travel documents
The Helsinki Police Department’s licence services will also be present at the Police Day.
“There will be two police vehicles from licence services at the Stoa square for people to identify themselves for travel documents. Applications must first be completed and paid online before identification at the event,” says Chief Inspector Satu Mäkinen from licence services.
