Oulu Police Department will mark Police Day on 26 August with events in Oulu Market Square and in Eino Leino Park in Paltamo. The events will provide the public with a chance to chat with police employees not just about topical issues on their mind but also about career opportunities in the Police Administration.

The traditional Police Day this year will be marked in Finland on Saturday 26 August, when police departments will hold events at more than 20 localities across Finland. Oulu Police Department will hold their Police Day event from 10am to 2pm in Eino Leino Park in Paltamo and in Oulu Market Square (despite Market Square renovation).

This year’s Police Day themes are young people and safety. Police Day events are aimed at promoting local face-to-face visibility and interaction with local residents. Police officers, police students and police civilian staff will be present at the events. The police welcome people of all ages to join in the events.

“Police Day events provide an opportunity for anyone to come and chat with us about topical issues on their mind. We are also pleased to tell you not just about a career as a police officer but also about a career in civilian police work since there are many other people than police officers working in the Police Administration,” points out Police Chief Mika Heinilä at Oulu Police Department.

People will be able to ask police students about training at the Police University College and seek advice on permit matters from our licence and permit services experts.

Police vehicles on display

Police Day events are not just chat forums but also feature police equipment and vehicles such as police cars, vans and motorcycles. The event in Paltamo will also have an armoured police vehicle on display and coffee and doughnuts will be served to the first visitors.

At the Oulu event, the public can meet Oulu Police Department’s latest social media police officer, Senior Constable Olli Kärsämä (@polliisiolli), who began TikToking in the spring. The authentic Market Square Policeman will interview visitors, police officers and other employees at Oulu Police Department. And music artist Sana will perform at the event.
