New firearms-related online services offered by the police will be opened to the public in mid-September 2023.

Demonstrating the continuation of a recreational activity will be possible through the police’s online services starting from 19 September 2023. Submitting a notice of a firearm permanently unfit for use or a deactivated firearm as required by law will also be possible through the online services at that time.

Demonstrating the continuation of a recreational activity will become easier

The holder of a firearms licence that is valid until further notice will be able to submit the necessary information on the continuation of the recreational activity that was used as the basis for issuing the licence without visiting the police department. The online service for demonstrating the continuation of a recreational activity will be available to the public in September.

Firearms unfit for use that have not yet been registered can be easily reported

Citizens must notify the police of all firearms rendered unfit for use by 15 July 2024. It will also be possible to submit the notice through the police’s online services starting from 19 September 2023. The service for submitting a notice of a firearm permanently unfit for use or a deactivated firearm will provide instructions for entering the identification information for the firearm. This will make submitting the notice quicker and easier, and a visit to a police station will usually not be needed.
More online services related to firearms and various other licences and permits will become available to the public in March 2024. The police’s online services can be accessed through the poliisi.fi website and at the address poliisi.fi/asiointi.
