Applying for extensions to research permits

You can apply to have your existing research permit continued or its scope extended.

Permit extension applications

Send a description of why your research needs more time to the registry of the competent authority. Enclose a copy of the research permit that you wish to extend.

This procedure can only be used to extend the expiry date of your permit, not to change the scope or objective of the project or the composition of the research team.

Requests to extend the scope of research material

If you wish to extend the scope of your research, you will need to submit a new application and a new research plan explaining which research question you are looking to answer by extending the scope of your project. This means sending the new documents and your original research permit to the registry of the competent authority.

You will also need to explain any changes in your schedule and the composition of the research team. New non-disclosure agreements from all those who will have access to the research material are also required.

Applications to change the composition of the research team

Send your application and existing research permit along with non-disclosure agreements signed by any new members of the team to the registry of the competent authority.

This procedure can only be used to change the composition of the research team, not to gain permission to use data obtained on the basis of an existing research permit for new research purposes.
