Helsinki Main Police Station, police matters

The main police station of Helsinki is located in the two police buildings in Pasila.
Police building 1 has the on-call unit for accepting police reports and handling lost property matters. Lost property customer service is open on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Additionally, lost items can be inquired about by phone on Mondays and Fridays from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Please note that you can ask about keys and eyeglasses only by visiting the lost property service in person. Lost property can also be sent by post to Helsinki Police Department, Löytötavarat (Lost property), PO Box 11, 00241 Helsinki. When sending lost property by post, please enclose information about the place and date when the lost property was found and the name and contact details of the person who found the lost property, and indicate whether the person would like to receive a finder’s fee and/or receive the lost property to themselves. Abandoned bicycles must be reported to the customer service of the Helsinki Urban Environment Division (+358 9 310 22111 or kaupunkiymparisto@hel.fi).

    Read the instructions first before applying for a passport, identity card or other permit, or submitting a crime report. Book an appointment beforehand, if possible.

    The police department that handles your case gives responses to pending cases. You can order pre-trial investigation reports and inquiries about unfinished investigationsrecords and copies from the police department or police station. Please do not come to the duty desk at the police station or to permit services with weapons, ammunition or explosives. In matters related to the inspection and handover of weapons, please read the instructions for arrival at the police station or permit services on the website of the relevant office.

    Police helpline

    The police helpline gives advice on non-urgent matters regarding licences, appointment bookings, e-services and traffic surveillance.

    The cost for a call to the Police is

    • the local network charge (pvm) if you call using a landline number
    • cellular phone charge (mpm) if you use a mobile phone
    • international call charge if you call from abroad.

    You will pay for the call in line with your operator tariff. Waiting time is also paid for.
