Gambling Administration at the National Police Board
The Gambling Administration of the National Police Board supervises gambling services. The National Police Board is an organisation within the administrative sector of the Ministry of the Interior. As an independent supervisory authority, it is responsible for supervising lotteries at national level and for compiling statistics on lotteries. The Gambling Administration’s offices are located in Riihimäki.
The Gambling Administration’s duties are to:
- issue opinions and advice on gambling
- produce guidelines, disseminate information and provide training in issues related to gambling services
- supervise the legality of gambling services
- intervene in the running and marketing of unlawful gambling operations.
In its supervision duties, the Gambling Administration cooperates with the police and may submit requests for investigation in suspected criminal matters to the police.
Efficient supervision of the gambling sector requires extensive international and national cooperation with interest groups and between public authorities.
