Uratarina Erno Järvi en

Versatile project work

Group Lead Erno Järvi
National Police Board, Information Technology Centre of the Police
Master of Engineering, IT

As a group lead, I am responsible for project planning, development and steering. The work is a versatile set of programme and project management models in collaboration with various stakeholder groups as well as steering and leading the programme and project managers.

My typical day at work includes first-level superior work, planning and timetable setting, steering or executive group work as well as finance and contract issues.  Recruitments, supplier management, mentoring as well organisational development operations often fill my working days.

From telephone networks to Police

My career started in 1998 as a software engineers in landline telephone networks; I did coding work and also tested my own code. I then moved on to software engineering tasks in cellular phone networks and stayed there for a decade – first as a team lead and later as a project manager. I was also an inhouse trainer, participating in process development, and on top of my day job, I taught at a university of applied sciences as well as community college. For the next four years or so, I continued my career in industry, more precisely in paper mills in Finland and in France. I was the local software commissioning project lead as well as a project manager in a plant application development project in the mining industry.

My first career move into the public sector was in 2012 when I started as a project manager in the Police operative renewal project in HALTIK which was the Ministry of Interior’s ICT agency. I was promoted and became a superior project manager, and through an internal mobility programme, I got the current team lead position.

Versatile work with a very good team

The best thing about my current job at the Police IT centre are the colleagues and a great team spirit and working atmosphere. We can flexibly work in multiple places, and we need not stretch the days into leisure time to complete the work-related tasks.

The Board’s investment and input in personnel wellbeing is a positive factor, especially as concerns coping with the job as well as the reconciliation of work and leisure. We collaborate in a versatile and meaningful job to promote Finland’s internal security.
