Always looking for a better way
Specialised Officer Kirsi Mikkola National Bureau of Investigation, Communications Centre MSc in Administrative Science
I am responsible for international police cooperation and communication. I am the Communications Centre’s INTERPOL Liaison Officer, and I run training courses on the operation of INTERPOL for officers of, for example, the Finnish Border Guard. I also help to plan and coordinate the Communications Centre’s routines. For example, I draft Finland’s position on items on the agenda of the INTERPOL’s General Assembly.
I have a master’s degree in administrative science, and I started at the National Bureau of Investigation three years ago as Secretary, Information Services. I have been in my current job for approximately a year now. I became interested in a career with the police during a traineeship at the police’s permits and licences customer service point in Tampere. There are probably a lot of people who do not realise the wealth of job opportunities that the police has to offer to civilians. At the Communications Centre, foreign language skills are a must. Fluent English is essential, but many of us also know other languages. I, for example, also speak French. My job requires attention to detail and good organisation skills. What I like best about my job is looking for new solutions. My job is to find ways to do things better.
