Were you the victim of a crime?

Were you the victim of a crime?

Over 800,000 crimes come to the police’s attention each year, of which over 300,000 are traffic offences. This means that many people are victims of crimes.

In addition to being traumatic to the victim, his/her family and friends, the most serious crimes also cause a lot of inconvenience, damage, concern, and suffering.

If you become the victim of a crime, you may feel lost. Depending on the type of crime, you may have to clarify practical issues and repair damage while the police investigate the matter.

The police refer people to assistance services

In their work, the police must consider the situation of the victim, his/her family and friends and, for example, witnesses, and help them in getting the support they need. Meeting victims requires good people skills and consideration from the police.

The police is obligated to establish the victim’s need for protection and tell him/her about their right to support services. The police can direct a victim to support services with his/her permission.

Support services

Since the police’s primary task is to investigate crimes, they cannot serve as the main provider of mental support. Therefore, the support services’ role in giving sufficient mental support and help is important. No one should be alone. There are a lot of services that give support.
