Police involved in ensuring security at Imatranajo International Road Racing Championship weekend
Imatra is set for its most action-packed weekend of the summer, when the city holds the Imatranajo International Road Racing Championship and side events. The police will be keeping the weekend safe and secure both in the city and on the roads.
We will intensify our enforcement of public order and security in Imatra and the surrounding areas during the Imatranajo International Road Racing Championship is held in the city on 3-6 July 2025. As in previous years, the event is expected to attract a large audience interested in motorsports.
The police will work together with the event organisers and other authorities to enable the security and success of the event.
- “Although the event organiser is primarily responsible for the security of the event, our police officers will also have a visible presence during the event,” says Chief Inspector Christa Björklöf at Southeastern Finland Police Department.
All criminal activity and acts that jeopardise the safety and security of the event will be addressed actively and preventively.
- “The job of the police at such large public events is to ensure the public order and security of both public areas and public events.”
- “Besides maintaining public order and security during the weekend, we will, for example, carry out inspections of licensed premises and monitor the use and possession of alcohol by minors in particular.”
Traffic may be congested both in the city and on the main roads
The police will also monitor traffic throughout the event. Motorcycle police officers have also been recruited from other police departments to support our operations.
- "On the main roads leading to Imatra and in urban areas, we will monitor drivers' driving speeds and fitness to drive, for example."
As in previous years, traffic in Imatra and nearby road areas may occasionally be congested, especially on Thursday 3 July due to outbound traffic and on Sunday 6 July due to return traffic.
- ”It's a good idea to allow a little more time for driving, especially on these days. If you hit a busy road, keep a cool head and drive at a leisurely pace with the rest of the traffic. Acting rashly will only cause dangerous situations and not ease congestion.“
We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable event!
