The Western Uusimaa Police Department’s permit services have started using text message check-in.

When a customer has a booked appointment and arrives at a police station, they will receive a text message on their mobile phone. By replying to the message, the customer can notify staff that they have arrived.

− Replying to the message is free of charge, and the message is sent approximately 30 minutes before the scheduled appointment time. This service is available at all police stations that offer permit services, says Head of Licence Service Piia Näsänen.

If a customer does not reply to the check-in message, the appointment will proceed as usual, and the customer will be called by name. However, checking in is useful, for example, if a customer arrives early and the customer service representative has some time between scheduled appointments. In such cases, customers who have checked in may be called forward earlier, as customer service staff are aware that they are already waiting in the lobby.
